Stand up paddleboarding, or SUP, is a water sport born of surfing with modern roots in Hawaii. Practicing stand up paddle involves a multitude of possibilities, fascinating discoveries and new sensations.

The SUP board is used for sailing, sightseeing, yoga or fishing.

Required equipment:

  • Board: Most SUP boards are between 10-12 meters, with boards over 12 meters used mainly for racing, and those under 10 meters used mainly for SUP surfing. The size chart that a user would choose depends on the user’s weight, although height may also be a factor.
  • Pallet: A SUP paddle is used to propel the board and its user over the entire surface of the water. The pallet consists of a blade, shaft and handle and should be between 8 and 15 centimeters higher than the user.
  • Belt: A belt is used to attach the user to the board. Prevents the board from floating if the user stops. The strap should be about one foot longer than the plate, with one end attached to the tail of the plate and the other end attached to the user’s ankle.
